All films in the Recovery Movie Meet-Ups program are carefully selected through a rigorous evaluation process in collaboration with our Advisory Committee, ensuring each title offers genuine clinical insight, emotional authenticity, and therapeutic value.
OUR SELECTION CRITERIA:
Non-Stigmatizing Representation
Portrays people recovering from alcohol/substance use mental health challenges with dignity and compassion, avoiding stereotypes, moral judgment, or shame-based framing.
Focused Narrative
Keeps addiction and/or mental health as the central storyline, without being overshadowed by unrelated plot lines.
Informative & Insightful
Offers meaningful insight into the nature of addiction and mental health struggles, helping viewers better understand these conditions and their impact on their lives and the lives of others.
Universal Relevance
Portrays a range of addiction and mental health experiences in ways that inform and resonate with everyone, helping viewers build empathy and understanding for challenges different from their own.
Authentic & Responsible
Avoids sensationalism or glorification of alcohol and/or substance us, self-harm, or destructive behaviors.
Positive Portrayal of Treatment and Support
Depicts therapy, treatment, or recovery programs in a respectful, accurate, and hopeful light.
