Watch. Relate. Recover.

The Recovery Movie Meetups Teen Editions are dynamic curriculums that use Hollywood movies about alcohol and substance misuse and/or common mental health struggles as the basis of powerfully therapeutic and richly rewarding group viewing and discussion in peer and/or facilitator-led mutual support meetings.

We need to adapt our therapy processes for the young person and that means less traditional talking therapy and more experiential work. In viewing other people’s story via a movie, it creates enough of a distance, offering safety to let go of defenses to share more honestly, discussing behaviors and influences that can lift someone out of their mental health problems and/or addictions, and into successful recovery.

A movie also involves watching with others - and engaging in community - which is vital to their recovery.
